CSO workshops, 2016
Jolt in collaboration with the CSO (ChCh Symphony Orchestra) ran a week of workshops for disability groups from schools and day service providers which was funded by the Lamar Charitable Trust. Ten different organisations attended as well as individuals from the wider community. In total over 150 people attended over the course of the week: people of all abilities and ages (from 8 years old to 60). Jolt facilitators Lyn Cotton and Renee Ryan worked with CSO musicians Hamish Oliver (piano/keyboard) and Mark La Roche (Timpanist) to create ideas for dance using the instruments. Working with the large Timpani, snare drum, maracas, chime bars and piano/keyboard we created a “bank of ideas” which we adapted to fit the diverse needs of each group. The focus was on seeing how music could engage people in dance in new ways.
